Pontefino Hotel and Residences is not difficult to miss in the city of Batangas because of its colorful residential units. The hotel’s good location (5-minute drive from SM Batangas) can easily attract guests, foreigners or locals, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re on a budget; one night for a standard room costs PHP6000 (as of Oct 2016).
When my colleagues and I arrived at Pontefino, we were greeted by the warm smiles of the staff. They were really friendly and accommodating to their guests. Downside though, I learned some of my workmates received welcome refreshments a few of us didn’t. Don’t know why😦
I checked the pool located at the back of the lobby and restaurant. It was quite big with a couple of native lounge chairs around its periphery. It was pretty and inviting but I noticed the water’s not that clear. Hesitantly, we went swimming not once but twice. We didn’t get any itch or rash so I guess the water’s fine.
The rooms were nice and spacious. Ours had a nice view of the pool but it needs a bit of upkeeping most especially the bathroom (parts of the wall had stains and looked old). The rooms had slippers, shampoos, soaps, toothbrushes and toothpastes but given the price of the room, I was expecting more like bathrobes, lotions, a safety box etc. Internet connection/ WiFi inside the rooms needs improvement too; the one at the lobby, however, is faster.
Room prices include a buffet breakfast served at the restaurant just beside the lobby at 6 in the morning to 10am. There were breads, cereals, Filipino dishes and fruits. They also served unlimited brewed coffee (Batangas’ famous Kapeng Barako), tea and one fruit juice. The choices were few but the food tasted nice, they just need to cut down the oil on their Chicken steak (I think it’s Adobo). My favorite was the lomi which is also a Batangas specialty, so don’t forget to try it.
Another thumbs-up for me is its gym facilities. They have treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, weights and balls. Their yoga mats need some cleaning; it was a bit scary to use it even after putting a large towel over it.
Overall, Pontefino is a nice hotel with warm and accommodating staff but I think it’s quite pricey given the quality of its facilities. The colorful residential units, on the other hand, are really a stand-out and can serve as beautiful backdrops for your OOTD. :)Location-wise, its very accessible by jeepney, tricyle or cab. The place is currently under construction and sometimes we would hear loud construction-like noises in our room, sometimes as late as 9 in the evening. It was disturbing during the first night but we got used to it. Hopefully, the hotel management will do something about it. So……if I would rate Pontefino Hotel and Residences I’d give it a score of 7/10.
